AAFES or Military Star bankruptcy

What Is a Military Star Credit Card?

A Military Star card is an unsecured credit card issued to active duty, reserve, and retired members of the armed forces as well as Department of Defense employees working overseas. Military Star cards have many advantages including low interest rates and no annual fees. They are issued by the Army and Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES) and can be used at military exchanges and stores owned by the AAFES.

How Is a Military Star Card Treated in Bankruptcy?

In bankruptcy, a Military Star card is considered a general unsecured debt just like your other credit card obligations. This means that it is fully dischargeable. If you cannot afford to make payments on your Military Star credit card, filing for bankruptcy can eliminate your obligation to pay it back.

How Can I Stop a Garnishment by AAFES or Military Star?

A person being garnished or experiencing an involuntary allotment can file for bankruptcy protection. By filing bankruptcy, you could immediately take control of your finances and stop AAFES and/or Military Star from garnishing your money. By filing bankruptcy, they would no longer be able to take your wages or your tax refund. Whether you file a Chapter 7 or a Chapter 13 bankruptcy, our Georgia bankruptcy attorneys can use the law to stop the collection of the AAFES and/or Military Star debt.

What Happens if I File for Bankruptcy?

Upon the filing of a Chapter 7 or Chapter 13 bankruptcy, all collection activity including, garnishments and/or involuntary allotments, must stop.  Any creditor that continues to attempt to collect a debt after the bankruptcy case is filed is a violation of the automatic stay order issued by the United States Bankruptcy Court.

As bankruptcy attorneys in Georgia, if we have a client with an AAFES or Military Star account we will immediately contact DFAS and/or AAFES upon the filing of the case to advise them of the filing of the bankruptcy case and tell them that all collection activity must be stopped immediately.
